Choked Up

This week I'm going to be listing a really cool new steampunk choker by LondonsGate.

Pictured Below, this beautiful new piece of steampunk jewelry is just so cool. It is made of a beautiful, black, sateen material, and has a very cool and vintage looking setting in the center. This ornate looking neovictorian setting contains a awesome Bulova watch movement with a ruby red swarovski crystal set on it.

Click the link below to go directly to it's page at Etsy:

This piece also highlights an evolving trend in steampunk where darker, and even occasionally macabre elements are being added to jewelry.

So dark and so steamy. Beautiful.

Be sure to check out LondonsGate at Etsy. Lots of Awesome wearable art.
They've got a cool homepage too: LondonsGate Portfolio

Dark Diversity

Today we're going to feauturing some really beautiful creations by a steampunk and gothic jewelry designer on Etsy called LondonsGate. The pieces that we are going to feature today aren't typical steampunk pieces like you'd see for the most part. These are quite Gothic, very different, and classically elegant!

First is an absolutely beautiful set of Gothic Chandelier earrings! These are so elegant, and feature Black and Siam Red Swarovski Crystals which are attached to beautiful silver findings to create these unique pieces of wearable art.

Next, there is a pair of really cool Ruby Red Crystal Earrings with absolutely stunning antique silver feathers hanging down. These are really beautiful, and have an almost Native American feel to them.

Finally we have a cute little victorian pendant that you can keep your hopes and dreams in! It hangs from a beautiful 17 inch silver chain, and the words "my dreams" are inscribed on the inside of the locket.

So cool... be sure to check out their main Etsy page for more really cool stuff: LondonsGate | Steampunk Jewelry

The growth of Steampunk as a Subculture

While in existence for many years, steampunk has begun a huge upward surge in popularity. A search for steampunk on google returns 2.750.000 results, and a search for steampunk jewelry yields 247,000. While far from an avalanche of websites talking about it, it's a very respectable number of sites dealing with this beautiful form of expression. Steampunk has grown immensely in recent years, as is noted in the absolutely huge number of sales of steampunk items on Etsy, as well as even being part of the computer modding world.

The big question is... will this trend die out as quick as it surged, or will it be around for the foreseeable future? In our eyes at steampunkjewelry.blogspot.com, it will indeed last. Here's some of our reasoning:
1. Unconventional: Steampunk is not your typical trend, converging around SciFi stories, movies, fashion, trade shows, and even music.
2. Unique: You won't see too many other things around like it! In fact, we challenge any of our readers to find a much more bad ass piece of jewelry than just an average watch movement steampunk ring!
3. Already has lasted: Steampunk as a subgenre has been around since the 80's, and has always had a major cult following. This reason alone is enough to suspect continued interest in the subject.

Check back soon, at the next update we'll be showcasing some of the coolest Steampunk Jewelry we've seen yet!

What is Steampunk Jewelry?

Steampunk Jewelry is a very unique form of artistic expression. This beautiful form of jewelry is relatively new, but the ideas behind it go back many years. Starting out in the 80's as a subgenre of science fiction writing, the idea of steampunk is rapid technological advance... but during the time of the industrial revolution, rather than during the information age. This alternate history provides a beautiful backdrop for some really unique designs.

The ideas of buzzing steam powered machines, complete with whirling, cranking gears powering airships, computers and more are spectacular for speculative fiction, and really translate beautifully when placed in the realm of fashion.

This blog will highlight the many aspects of steampunk jewelry, and will highlight some designs and pieces that we think are particularly spectacular.

Welcome to steampunkjewelry.blogspot.com! We're new, but be sure to keep checking back for some great info on both the steampunk culture, and some amazing steampunk jewelry.
